Our team serves as a true partner and advisor to all our business leaders; working with them to accelerate the company’s profitability and growth.What you’ll be doing:This position’s primary responsibility is to administer the payroll tax operation duties for multiple companies across multiple states. Provide superior customer service to Staples 37,000+ associates and business partners by utilizing knowledge of multi-state payroll processing laws and requirements. In addition, this role will be responsible for the following:• Review, reconcile, and transmit wage and tax information processed by Payroll daily via on and off cycle check runs.• Prepare and audit weekly EFT tax payments for accuracy prior to submission to Staples Treasury• Make ACH debit and check payments as needed• Prepare GL posting to record the tax payments to the appropriate tax liability accounts.• Reconcile and resolve variances between tax payments and accruals by jurisdiction via GL reconciliations.• Prepare Quarterly tax reconciliations and research and correct any variances.• Coordinate corrections to taxes and ongoing employee withholding with Payroll and HRS.• Process ServiceNow tickets within SLA.• Complete tax balance adjustments in Peoplesoft.• Reconcile quarterly filings to annual balances and W2s. Identify variances in prior periods filings, determine course of action needed to resolve, amend prior periods returns, or make additional payments as required.• Maintain all state, local, and federal payroll tax registrations.• Maintain the tax location code table and unemployment rates in PeopleSoft and MasterTax.• Prepare additional correspondence to request information, abatement of penalties, or refunds as needed with federal, state, and local agencies.• Prepare Federal, state and local tax filings and payments.
