Aston Carter is a leading Aerospace and Defense company seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Accountant- Government Billing to join their Accounting Department in San Diego, CA. The role focuses on reviewing contracts, preparing invoices, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting audits in a government contracting environment.Responsibilities• Review contracts and prepare customer invoices for Cost Reimbursable, Fixed Fee, T&M, and Progress Payment contracts in a government contracting environment.• Record journal entries (revenue, billed, and unbilled accounts receivable) and support month-end close processes.• Ensure compliance with US GAAP and applicable company policies for revenue recognition.• Complete project and account reconciliations.• Prepare and support government final and quick close-out invoices.• Support government and financial audits.• Coordinate and participate in the research and analysis of accounting and financial data.• Compile data and prepare a variety of highly complex reports, potentially presenting findings to professional staff and/or management.• Provide excellent customer service and work closely with the Contracts and Finance departments.• Assure company compliance with Financial Accounting Standards, Cost Accounting Standards, Federal Acquisition Regulations, and disclosed company practices.• Recommend improvements or changes to processing methods and techniques.• Contribute to and ensure the accuracy of accounting data, transactions, and maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting files and records.• Perform special projects as assigned.Skills• 8+ years of progressive experience as a Project Accountant, experience with government billing and contracting regulations like FAR• Billing experience with Cost Reimbursable, Fixed Fee, T&M, and Progress Payments in a government contracting environment.• Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), cost accounting standards (CAS), and FAR.• Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.• Proficiency in MS Office with strong working knowledge of Excel.• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.• SAP experience is strongly preferred.• Experience with big systems like Oracle, if no SAP experience.• Ability to identify issues, analyze and interpret data, and develop solutions to complex problems.• Strong organizational, scheduling, and coordination skills to meet deadlines.• Customer service focus.Education Requirements• Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline.Benefits• Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance: Multiple plan options including HMO, PPO, and High Deductible with HSA.
