This position is responsible for applying advanced geographic information systems (GIS) expertise to support client projects, while also contributing to business development and long-term organizational growth. The GIS Specialist will identify and pursue new opportunities, assist in proposal development, and foster client relationships to expand the company’s market presence. In addition, this role supports strategic planning by analyzing trends, recommending innovative GIS solutions, and aligning technical capabilities with organizational goals. By bridging technical excellence with business insight, the GIS Specialist ensures that GIS services not only meet client needs but also strengthen the company’s competitive advantage and future direction.GIS Technical Expertise• Design, develop, and maintain GIS databases, applications, and mapping solutions to support client projects and internal initiatives.• Perform spatial analysis, data visualization, and cartographic production to deliver actionable insights.• Ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance of GIS data with industry standards and client requirements.• Collaborate with project managers, analysts, and technical teams to integrate GIS solutions into broader workflows.Business Development• Identify, research, and evaluate new business opportunities within the GIS sector and related industries.• Support proposal development by contributing technical content, GIS methodologies, and innovative solution approaches.• Build and maintain relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders to expand the company’s market presence.• Represent the organization at client meetings to showcase GIS capabilities and solutions.Strategic Planning• Analyze market trends, emerging GIS technologies, and competitive positioning to inform business strategies.• Work on GIS Strategic Plans for clients which may include interviews, writing, and presenting findings using GTG’s strategic planning process.Education & Experience• Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or related field (master's preferred).• 3+ years of professional experience in GIS analysis, application development, or spatial data management.• Experience in business development, client engagement, or proposal support is highly desirable.• Knowledge of strategic planning or organizational development practices is a plus.Technical Skills• Proficiency with Esri ArcGIS platform (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Enterprise).• Strong skills in spatial analysis, data management, and cartographic design.• Familiarity with Python, SQL, or other programming languages for GIS automation and customization.• Understanding of emerging GIS technologies, cloud-based solutions, and data integration tools.Core Competencies• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.• Business acumen and strategic thinking, with the ability to identify opportunities and propose solutions.• Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across technical and business teams.• Detail-oriented, innovative, and adaptable to changing client and organizational needs.This is a remote position.
