The ideal candidate will be a personable and versatile communicator with exceptional anchoring, reporting, and writing skills for all ABC7 News platforms. You will have a passion for news and excel at breaking news coverage on the desk and in the field. As a self-starter and team player, you will collaborate effectively with a wide range of personnel to create compelling content on all platforms. You will be an active user of social media for news gathering and have a demonstrated ability to move the audience between linear and digital platforms.Key Responsibilities• Craft daily live reports and taped segments for our weekday morning, linear, and streaming newscasts• Pitch story ideas on a daily basis, showcasing your creativity and understanding of what drives our audience• Communicate well with others in the newsroom when producing segments, ensuring seamless collaboration and effective storytelling• Collaborate with digital team members throughout the day to create engaging content for our online platforms• Write clear and compelling copy for our newscasts, demonstrating your exceptional writing skills and attention to detail• Execute last-minute changes in high-pressure situations, showcasing your ability to work well under deadline pressures• Turn visually creative, memorable stories when given the opportunity to report in the field or on long-form projects, highlighting your storytelling abilitiesRequirements and QualificationsTo be considered for this role, you will need to meet the following basic qualifications:• Minimum of three years of experience at a local news station as a reporter/anchor, demonstrating your understanding of the news industry and your ability to work in a fast-paced environment• Demonstrated ability to work under deadline pressures and in a rapid, fast-paced environment, showcasing your ability to thrive in a dynamic newsroom• Detail-oriented with strong editorial and production skills, ensuring that your work is of the highest quality• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating your ability to effectively communicate with our audience and colleagues• Must be flexible with working hours (nights, overnights, holidays) and adaptable to change, showcasing your ability to be flexible and responsive to the needs of our newsroom• Required Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience, demonstrating your commitment to education and your ability to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical settingPreferred Qualifications• Experience working in a large market or with a major network, demonstrating your ability to work at a high level and thrive in a competitive environment• Proven track record of developing great contacts and sources, showcasing your ability to build relationships and gather information effectively• Demonstrated ability to tell impactful stories, highlighting your ability to craft compelling narratives and engage our audience• Experience with social media for news gathering and promotion, demonstrating your understanding of the importance of social media in modern journalismWhat We OfferIn return for your skills and experience, we offer a competitive salary range of $89,180.00 - $190,000.00 per year, depending on your geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
