As a remote live event director II, you will play a critical role in the production of live remote and REMI games, working closely with the production team to ensure seamless execution and technical excellence.Job OverviewThe successful candidate will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and executing live event productions, including live remote and REMI games. This will involve supervising technical teams, providing guidance and feedback, and working closely with producers and planning producers to determine the creative vision and technical direction of the show. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in live event production, a deep understanding of technical roles, and excellent leadership and communication skills.Key Responsibilities• Design, coordinate, and execute live event productions of live remote and REMI games, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of allocated events.• Supervise technical teams for live event productions, providing guidance, feedback, and development opportunities to ensure exceptional performance.• Collaborate with remote operations to determine technical facility and personnel needs for broadcasts.• Work closely with producers and planning producers to determine the creative vision and technical direction of the show, driving innovation and new workflows that leverage technology.• Organize and lead meetings to develop production and operational strategies, as needed.• Make ongoing decisions regarding what images and sounds will be broadcast, interpreting data and information to determine camera angles, elements, and sequences.• Work with producers and tasks teams to determine camera placement at each venue, designing and executing the capture of desired shots, live-to-tape builds, and sequences of shots.• Collaborate with engineering professionals to integrate all elements in a broadcast, including graphics, enhanced technology elements, switcher effects, composite music, and more.• Coordinate technical teams and remote employees assigned to events, conducting production and technical meetings to define team responsibilities and outline expectations for live remote events.• Team up with the staffing office to best assign technical production teams for live events, providing real-time feedback on the remote operations team and maintaining divisional awareness, as applicable.• Prepare for each game by conducting research on teams, players, storylines, trends, and more.• Provide guidance to live analysts prior to broadcasts and guide them, as needed, during broadcasts.• Make on-the-spot article adjustments to coverage designs as unexpected circumstances and opportunities arise.• Investigate, in real-time, operational issues that arise during assigned games.• Have the knowledge and ability to direct studio-related productions, both in-house and on-remote.• Provide ongoing feedback to directors and associate directors and document written feedback to management, ensuring insightful and comprehensive feedback with clear, detailed examples.Essential Qualifications• Extensive live remote game directing experience, with a deep understanding of the live game directing process.• Ability to clearly and concisely communicate with all team members during live broadcasts.• Knowledge of the technical equipment involved in directing live remote games.• Knowledge of sports history and current events.• High school diploma or equivalent required.Preferred Qualifications• At least 4 years of complex live game directing experience, with a proven track record of success.• Understanding of the financial implications of directing live remote and REMI games.• Passion for popular culture and a role in defining ESPN viewer tastes.• Understanding of market positioning and strategies of assigned games.• Bachelor's degree in broadcasting, communication, journalism, or a closely related field preferred.Career Growth Opportunities and Learning BenefitsAs a remote live event director II at ESPN, you will have access to a wide range of career growth opportunities and learning benefits.
