As a Ramp Agent, you will be responsible for managing equipment on and off planes, transporting items between terminals and planes, and receiving, delivering, weighing, and documenting shipments. You will also be required to work outdoors in various weather conditions, lift and load luggage and cargo, and operate belt loaders and other equipment.Key Responsibilities• Guide aircraft through status and maintaining wands at or above shoulder height• Function equipment to perform airplane movement• Arrive at the gate in advance of plane arrival and participate in pre-arrival briefing• Chock plane wheels and role safety cones around the plane• Function equipment (e.g., air-start devices, conveyors) by aircraft• Join ground power, pre-conditioned air, and air-start devices• Carry out exterior restroom servicing and service aircraft potable water• Transfer baggage/shipment to and from belts, carts, luggage devices, and boxes• Power tug and cart to specific plane and drop-off areas• Open and close the shipment door of the aircraft input and exit the cargo compartment of the plane• Remove bags/shipment from plane shipment compartment and test luggage/cargo• Load bags/shipment within the aircraft cargo compartment in accordance with weight and balance specificationsEssential QualificationsTo be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:• High school diploma or GED or international equivalent• Must be 18 years of age or older• Able to lift, load, unload, and transport luggage and cargo to/from aircraft, bag carts, and conveyor belts• Basic computer skills and ability to use primary computer functions• People-oriented and highly motivated, with a positive and cooperative attitude• Excellent communication skills• Valid driver's license as required by local government• Able to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US Customs security badges, if applicable• Completion of a pre-employment drug screen, comprehensive background check, and/or fingerprinting to satisfy company and security requirements• Ability to obtain jet bridge certificationPreferred QualificationsWhile not essential, the following qualifications are preferred:• Previous experience in the aviation industry or a related field• Knowledge of aircraft handling and safety procedures• Ability to speak multiple languages• Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environmentSkills and CompetenciesTo be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies:• Strong communication and interpersonal skills• Ability to work effectively in a team environment• Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, dynamic environment• Ability to lift and load luggage and cargo• Basic computer skills and ability to use primary computer functions• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditionsCareer Growth OpportunitiesAt American Airlines, we are committed to helping our employees grow and develop in their careers.
