As a member of our IT department, you will play a crucial role in developing and supporting electronic, Java applications, and web services that drive our business forward.Job Overview and ResponsibilitiesThis position is part of the Information Technology Group within the Information Technology Division. As an Associate Developer, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining complex applications, including bug fixes, feature enhancements, and performance tuning. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, project managers, IT engineers, and other developers to understand requirements and development needs.Your key responsibilities will include:• Developing new and maintaining current applications, including bug fixes, feature improvements, and performance tuning in the Corporate Security, Crisis Planning and Response, Environmental and Health IT portfolios• Researching and implementing new technology to improve current processes, security, and performance• Investigating and troubleshooting complex issues; identifying and implementing solutions• Working with a team to create detailed project specifications, requirements, and standards, and ensuring tasks/projects are completed on time and within scope• Collaborating with production operations division to ensure solutions implement smoothly and customer groups receive appropriate support• Documenting validation of design choices• Supporting the enforcement of policy and procedural changes within the development group• Supporting the development of coding standards and adhering to best practices and security guidelines set out by the development group• Participating in code reviewsEssential and Preferred QualificationsTo be successful in this role, you will need:Essential Qualifications:• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training• 2 years of complete development experience• 2 years of web application or services experiencePreferred Qualifications:• 2+ years of complete development experience• 2+ years of web application experience• Airline industry experienceSkills and CompetenciesThe ideal candidate will have:• Basic to intermediate knowledge of object-oriented programming, common data structures, and algorithms, design patterns, and best practices• Basic to intermediate development skills with XML, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, GIT, JQuery, Angular, Soap/REST, and other web development technologies• Experience with Visual Studio and Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS) or GitHub• Knowledge of relational databases (MSSQL Server, Oracle)• Ability to analyze applications and services to ensure they adhere to security guidelines• Networking knowledge (Sockets, TCP/IP, UDP)• Excellent prioritization and time management skills• Exceptional analytical thinking and problem-solving skills• Personal commitment to Agile principles and a continuous improvement mindset• Knowledge of TDD and automated testing• Knowledge of PCI Compliance/OWASP guidelines• Knowledge of diagnostic tools (SOAPUI, Fiddler, IE Debugger, HTTP Analyzer, Dynatrace)Career Growth Opportunities and Learning BenefitsAt American Airlines, we are committed to helping our employees grow and develop in their careers.
