As a key member of our collaborative team, you'll be responsible for researching laws, preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda, and rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department. You'll also prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath, and defend by trial or dispositive hearing, all matters assigned, as applicable.Key Responsibilities• Researching laws and preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda• Rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department• Preparing and handling pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath• Defending by trial or dispositive hearing, all matters assigned, as applicable• Documenting files in a clear, concise, professional written manner, to be understood by customers, clients, co-workers, and other employees of the organization• FOLLOWING complex instructions, resolving conflicts or facilitating conflict resolution, and having strong organization/priority setting and multi-tasking skills• Learning and applying large amounts of technical and procedural informationQualificationsTo be successful in this role, you'll need to possess the following qualifications:Essential Qualifications• 2 to 6+ years of experience in related field litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury REQUIRED• Juris Doctor degree REQUIRED• Admission to the Florida Bar REQUIRED• Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in Florida and meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable• Must be able to travel as required, including but not limited to, attending trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferencesPreferred Qualifications• Civil litigation experience• Insurance defense-related litigation experience• Ability to communicate in a professional manner in person, via telephone, and written correspondence/emailSkills and CompetenciesTo excel in this role, you'll need to possess the following skills and competencies:• Strong research and analytical skills• Excellent written and verbal communication skills• Ability to work independently and as part of a team• Strong organizational and time management skills• Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural informationCareer Growth Opportunities and Learning BenefitsAt GEICO, we're committed to helping our associates grow and develop their careers.
