If you're a motivated and experienced attorney with a passion for litigation, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.About the RoleAs an Associate Counsel, you'll be responsible for:* Researching laws and preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda to support our defense strategies* Rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department* Preparing and handling pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath* Defending by trial or dispositive hearing, all matters assigned, as applicable* Collaborating with our Claims Department to ensure seamless communication and effective defense strategies* Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all cases, including documentation of files in a clear, concise, professional written mannerQualifications and RequirementsTo be successful in this role, you'll need:* A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school* Admission to the New Jersey Bar* 2-6+ years of experience in litigation, with a focus on insurance defense and/or personal injury* Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to quickly grasp complex legal concepts* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders* Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines* Ability to travel as required, including attending trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences* Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretionPreferred QualificationsWhile not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:* Civil litigation experience, particularly in insurance defense-related litigation* Strong knowledge of New Jersey insurance laws and regulations* Experience working with claims adjusters and other stakeholders to develop effective defense strategies* Ability to communicate effectively in person, via telephone, and written correspondence/emailSkills and CompetenciesTo succeed in this role, you'll need to possess the following skills and competencies:* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders* Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, with multiple competing priorities and deadlines* Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date records* Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural informationCareer Growth Opportunities and Learning BenefitsAt GEICO, we're committed to helping our associates grow and develop their careers.
