Supporting the V.P. Director of Art and Design and the Associate Art Directors, the Design Assistant will also provide administrative support to the entire Design department on a wide-ranging list of fiction and nonfiction titles across these high-profile imprints including Penguin Press, Viking Books, Riverhead Books, Penguin Books, Portfolio, Sentinel, Thesis, Optimism Press, Penguin Classics, The Open Field, and Pamela Dorman Books. This position offers the opportunity for growth and to learn about the interior design process, from the manuscript stage all the way to the printed book you will eventually hold in your hands. This includes the binding, endpapers, and everything you see on every page. The book designer attends to every detail, from the original layouts to overseeing the typesetting of every page and element. The Assistant acts as a liaison between Editorial, Managing Editorial, Production Editorial, and Production within the publishing group.Our ideal candidate is highly motivated, loves the art of bookmaking and the physical object of the book, and enjoys reading broadly and often.
