Job Summary:

Houston Skilled Consultancy is seeking experienced and detail-oriented Proofreaders and Editors to join our remote team. This position offers the flexibility of working from home while contributing to a wide variety of client projects. As a Proofreader and Editor, you will ensure that written materials are error-free, polished, and meet the highest standards of quality. You will be responsible for reviewing content for grammatical accuracy, clarity, and coherence, ensuring that all documents are aligned with client requirements and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and proofread written content, including articles, blogs, reports, and other documents, ensuring grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax are accurate.
  • Edit content for clarity, consistency, and flow, while maintaining the authors original tone and voice.
  • Ensure adherence to style guides and company formatting standards.
  • Collaborate with writers, content creators, and other team members to clarify content, resolve ambiguities, and improve the overall quality.
  • Conduct fact-checking when necessary to ensure the accuracy of information.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions for improvement to content creators while fostering a positive working relationship.
  • Meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Exceptional proofreading and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in grammar, punctuation, and style guidelines (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to provide constructive feedback.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently.
  • A deep understanding of formatting and layout principles.
  • Ability to work with various types of content, including technical documents, creative writing, and academic papers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Docs.
  • Strong familiarity with editing tools and software, such as Grammarly, ProWritingAid, or other proofreading platforms.
  • Bachelors degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in proofreading and editing content in a professional setting, ideally with a portfolio demonstrating previous work.
  • Experience with remote work and managing tasks independently is a plus.
  • Prior experience in a specialized editing field (such as legal, medical, or technical) is highly desirable but not essential.

Working Hours:
