<div><h2>Overview</h2><p>The Environment Agency has a broad, varied remit to protect and enhance the environment, with a goal to create a cleaner, safer and healthier environment for people and wildlife. Water is at the heart of all we do, supporting drinking, washing, recreation, industry and health. Clean and available water is essential, and as water becomes increasingly scarce, we need to protect it. Water companies must invest billions over the next five years to protect the environment from pollution. We need your knowledge and experience to help advise water companies on their plans and hold them to account for protecting the water environment.</p><p>Join the teams that ensure our environment is protected now and for future generations. You will work as part of the Operations Catchment Services, specifically the Water Quality team, to help embed Bathing Waters work within our teams and support the Operational community of practice.</p><h2>What you will do</h2><ul><li>Work alongside Water Quality Officers to establish and embed Bathing Waters work in our teams and support the Operational community of practice to fulfil its responsibilities.</li><li>Assess Water Company proposals to meet bathing water standards and develop innovative methods to achieve these standards.</li><li>Collaborate with Environment Agency teams (e.g., Local Area Integrated Environmental Planning and National Water Quality Guidance Teams) and engage with water companies and external stakeholders to achieve Bathing Waters outcomes.</li><li>Respond to incidents as part of an incident role, with training provided. Incident work may attract an additional payment.</li></ul><h2>Team, location and travel</h2><p>The team is part of Operations Catchment Services, working with colleagues across the organisation. We are a dispersed team and may meet face to face when needed. Location flexibility is supported, and training and mentoring are provided. You will travel for national meetings with occasional overnight stays.</p><h2>Essential</h2><p>Experience/skills required</p><ul><li>Knowledge of water quality planning, bathing water regulations, understanding of the water industry and price review processes. Excellent communication and networking skills to work with Environment Agency colleagues and external stakeholders.</li><li>Ability to analyse technical information.</li><li>Experience presenting technical information to a wide audience.</li><li>Organisational skills with the ability to plan, track, deliver and evaluate work to relevant standards and timescales.</li><li>Work experience in an environmental discipline (e.g., water companies, environmental consultancies, regulatory roles, research/education, environmental charities).</li></ul><h2>Desirable</h2><p>Degree or postgraduate qualification in an environmental discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Ecology, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Data science and analytics).</p><p>Experience in water quality modelling.</p><h2>Contact and additional information</h2><p>You will be working as part of a dispersed team and are expected to travel for national meetings with occasional overnight stays.</p><p>We welcome applications from diverse backgrounds and flexible working patterns, including part-time and job share.
