JOB PURPOSE

Basic Medical Sciences Department at the College of Medicine, University of Sharjah invites applications for an open rank faculty position (Assistant or Associate) in Human Anatomy, Histology and Embryology. The successful candidate is expected to teach human anatomy for medical students within an integrated, problem based curriculum.


MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

  • Deliver lectures to medical students in human Anatomy, Histology and Embryology in an integrated problem-based learning (PBL) curriculum.
  • Teach clinical gross anatomy with full-body dissection laboratories.
  • Develop a research program based on their interests and experiences.
  • Actively participate in scholarship and professional development within area of expertise.
  • Facilitate weekly small group sessions in PBL program (Training can be provided).
  • Advise undergraduate students.
  • Active participation in departmental assignments, university committees, and student activities.
  • Actively participate in relevant professional activities in order to improve teaching and subject matter competence.
  • Serve on faculty committees as appointed or elected.
  • Participate in other activities as assigned by the Department Chair or the College Dean.



REQUIRED SKILLS
Prospective applicants holding PhD or equivalent with an excellent record of academic performance, and demonstrated expertise in Human Anatomy, Histology and Embryology are encouraged to apply.
  • The candidate must have an extensive experience in teaching clinical gross anatomy with full-body dissection laboratories.
  • Furthermore, the candidate is expected to develop and conduct research at the Research Institute of Medical & Health Sciences (RIMHS).
  • Holds an M.B.B.S degree with a PhD (or equivalent) in Human Anatomy.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
  • The ability to relate Human Anatomy to clinical scenarios.
  • Strong teaching skills and experience supported by evidences of their potential.
  • Experience in teaching clinical gross anatomy with full-body dissection laboratories.
  • Experience in computer-assisted delivery of course content.
  • Has a strong record in research and publications.
  • At least 3 years teaching experience in higher education institutions, medical/health sciences.
  • Experience in Problem Based Learning is highly desirable.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (In English).
  • Strong interpersonal skills that can produce effective professor-student interactions during both one-on-one (student advising) and in group (classroom) sessions.
  • Sincere interest in assis ting each student within a diverse and multi-cultural community to maximize their academic, spiritual and persona l potential.
  • Team player that is motivated to strengthen and advance the department.
